Expert Innovative Statistical Support for Department of Surgery Investigators

Mission

The mission of the Biostatistics Core is to provide expert and innovative statistical support to surgery investigators to aid in designing and conduct rigorous high-quality research. We will provide the full range of statistical support including:

  1. Assistance with data analysis/interpretation for grant submission
  2. Abstract, manuscript, presentation
  3. Statistical analysis design for new studies
  4. Development of novel statistical methodology

Submission

  • Please submit requests using the online Biostat Intake Form.
  • Please provide detailed information regarding your project and the requested statistical services to help facilitate an expeditious review and approval process.
  • Please observe the following guidelines Dr. Jin and her colleagues in the Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics have developed to help investigators build the highest quality data:

Instructions for Researchers -- Creating a Dataset

Abbreviated Instructions for Researchers -- Creating a Dataset

Review Process

All proposals will be reviewed and scored by the Research Committee, Vice Chair of Research (once named) and the biostatisticians. Priority will be given to:

  1. Residents
  2. Unfunded faculty seeking to assemble pilot data to inform grant submissions

Participation in Departmental Research Activities

We urge investigators to avoid requesting last minute pilot data compilation owing to tight grant/abstract deadlines. Our goal is to provide the statisticians with sufficient time for them to provide superior service. As a rule, it is expected that Department members receiving biostatistical services will participate in the larger Department of Surgery research community, the development process underpinning the core, and "Research in Progress" seminars.
